Jack Summerall Family Gathering!!
Thursday, August 24, 2006 –Sunday, August 27, 2006
Dear Family,
We are celebrating our 51st Jack Summerall Family Gathering this year. Isn’t it extraordinary that the Jack Summerall Family Gathering has thrived for over fifty years, and has drawn its strength and very identity from core values that seem timeless! We are a purposeful family, rooted in faith, devoted to the progress of each other and the human race through religion, prayer and education. We have had a profound influence in our communities for over 50 years and this is truly commendable.
It would be foolish for us to see our celebration as being simply about the past, about counting years and reliving memories, as cherished as they may be. This 50th Anniversary Jack Summerall Family Gathering must be more about the future. We acknowledge the past because it has brought us from a mighty long way to this moment of strength. And from this moment of strength, we must begin to plan the next fifty years and beyond.
The Jack Summerall Family is blessed with many gifts. One of the gifts is our great love for the Word of God which enables us to continue the vision. This vision was set forth by our gathering founders Beatrice Sharpe-Stevens, Phedia McMillan-Gourdine and Sam Summerall over fifty years ago in Connecticut.
A second gift is our ability to choose wisely the necessary strategies to put that vision and others into practice for the coming generations.
Our history is a remarkable one in America. We have remained faithful and strong by preserving the traditional concept of family. Five hundred or more of us have taken this faith universally and have shared it with our extended family and friends.
Yes, our history is an extraordinary story that began with a handful of religious cousins and transformed a prayer, vision and dream into a powerful story. Thank you for your special part in the Jack Summerall Family Gathering history. Your continued faithfulness and support confirms our family’s motto everyday; “the family that prays together, stays together”. This statement speaks so eloquently of whom we are and what we hope to continue to be.
I am committed to the Jack Summerall Family core values and vision and with God’s grace these values will bring us to our centennial in the year 2056. I hope you will put this letter in a place for reference and will join us this year at the Jack Summerall Family Gathering in Baxley, GA on August 24-27,2006.
I am grateful for your prayers and continued encouragement.
Sincerely,
Wally Burgess
President
